I've been to New York, NY countless times on business over the years. My preferred hotel is the Westin Times Square because for me, it tends to be centrally located, and I know exactly how to get to every other part of the city from there. While Times Square itself is still an amazing place, the spectacle had mostly worn off on me a long time ago. Or perhaps it was simply that I was always too focused on the next customer meeting to slow down enough and enjoy it.

After finishing an all day training session for a customer in New York the other day however, I stopped at the Toys-R-Us in Times Square, which I realized I'd never been inside. I had known from others that it was big, and had a ferris wheel ride inside of it, but had never seen it personally. As I walked by it en route to my hotel, I was reminded of a request from Paige for a toy from my travels. Certainly there had to be something worthy in one of the worlds biggest toy stores. So, for once, I slowed down, and walked inside.

It's big too. Four stories big. And there's something for everybody from video games, to sports memorabilia, to candy, to action figures, and much, much more. I wandered around for a while, simply enjoying the excess, and stopped at a quite place to enjoy some people watching. I was amazed at how well they monetized on their location - you could buy pictures of you walking into the store, with a guy in a Spiderman (at least that day) costume, on the ferris wheel and more.

Those money making schemes aside, once you took it all in, it wasn't really much different from any other Toys-R-Us. Despite it's size, it didn't seem to have "more" per se, as much as it was all just really spread out. In fact, I had a downright hard time finding a simple toy to bring home to Paige. I settled on a "Hello Kitty: New York" t-shirt that would make for a nice nightgown for her (and which in the end she really loved).

I can finally say that I've been there though, and I'm pretty proud of myself for actually slowing down enough for once to take in this Times Square destination.

I'm trying to remember when we got this toy-- I think it was the Christmas of 2001, though it may have been 2000. It's one of those Fisher Price rocker-push mobile-big wheel set ups & I have to say it was the best $30 we ever spent on a toy. It has been used more than any other toy we own. All 3 kids use it, the neighbor kid favors it when over, the kids down the street have one exactly like it but still ride ours when they see it-- any kid who comes to this house uses that thing, and as you can see, it's been well used. :)

The front tire isn't even round anymore. My daughter says "it bumps" when you ride on it. The hole brings back fond memories of the once-real Big Wheels we used when I was growing up, only this one doesn't come with a break-- they still mange to do spinouts with it. :)
